Roger F Thomson
I was born in Detroit in 1949, but moved to the Minneapolis area when I was in the 2nd grade, so I consider Minnesota home. I graduated from Edina High School in 1967, and went to Miami Universality in Oxford Ohio, where I got by B.A. in English in s1071. Law school at Southern Methodist Universality in Dallas followed and I obtained my J.D in 1974. After a short stint in private practice, I became general counsel at S&A Restaurant Corp (Steak and Ale and Bennigan’s). After 11 years there, I became General Counsel at Burger King in Miami and in 1993 I became General Counsel at Brinker International (Chili’s, Maggiano’s macaroni Grill and other brands), retiring from there in 2016. I now live full time in Miami Beach with my husband, Jim Tyrrell, and our cat.
I have been actively involved in the progressive human rights and equality issues for over a decade. I have been on the Board of the National LGBTQ Task Force since 2011, having been its Treasures for 3 years and Co-Chair for 2 years. Additionally, I serve on the City of Miami Beach LGBTQ Advisory Committee, having been appointed by the Mayor earlier this year. And I am a member of the Miami Foundation Community Fund which dispenses grants to local LGBTQ non-profit organizations.
Jim and I are also supporters of numerous Miami charitable organizations such as Pridelines, SAVE, Equality Florida, SAGE, Aqua Foundation.
I love long walks around Miami Beach (not counting the day I got hit by a bus) and of course, Pilates 3 times a week.
